This month marks a very special occasion for all of us at The Ro Hotel as we celebrate our 5th Birthday.
While the building has been welcoming visitors to Windermere for decades, the past five years have marked an exciting new chapter in its history. Since becoming The Ro Hotel, we have had the privilege of welcoming thousands of guests through our doors, creating unforgettable experiences and building a community of visitors who return year after year.
From romantic escapes and wellness retreats to family adventures, weddings and special celebrations, every stay has become part of our story. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the journey so far and thank the guests, team members and local community who have made it all possible.
A New Chapter in a Historic Setting
Although we’re proudly celebrating five years as The Ro Hotel, our story is rooted in a much longer history.
Perched above the shores of Lake Windermere, the hotel has long been a familiar part of the Bowness-on-Windermere landscape. Many visitors will remember its previous chapter as The Hydro Hotel, a much-loved Lake District landmark that welcomed generations of guests seeking relaxation, adventure and breathtaking views.
In 2021, the hotel entered a new era, becoming The Ro Hotel following an extensive transformation. Inspired by the beauty of the surrounding landscape, The Ro was reimagined as a contemporary Lake District retreat, combining stylish interiors, modern comforts and exceptional facilities with the warmth and hospitality that have always defined this special location.
The name “Ro” reflects our connection to the water, the landscape and the peaceful rhythm of life on the lake. Whilst much has changed over the years, our commitment to providing memorable stays and a warm welcome has remained constant.
A Home From Home
One of the greatest compliments we receive is when guests tell us that The Ro feels like their “home from home.”
Whether you’re joining us for your first visit or returning for another stay, our aim has always been to create a place where guests can truly switch off, unwind and enjoy everything the Lake District has to offer.
Over the past five years, we’ve been honoured to play a small part in so many special occasions. We’ve celebrated anniversaries and birthdays, hosted family gatherings and reunions, welcomed guests on their dream Lake District holidays and provided the backdrop to countless memorable moments.
Many of our guests have become familiar faces, returning year after year to enjoy the views, the wellness facilities, the restaurant and, most importantly, the feeling of coming back somewhere they know and love.
